Meet the Artist
Gretchen Reinhagen has received numerous awards as an actor, vocalist, comedian and director, including the coveted NY cabaret triple crown – The Nightlife, Bistro, and MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) Awards – for her show, Special Kaye: A Tribute to the Incomparable Kaye Ballard. Her 2019 debut album, Take it With Me, earned her additional Bistro and MAC awards, and she also won the 2020 MAC Award for Major Female Artist. Of her 2019-20 residency at Pangea, Broadway World said, “Reinhagen thrilled the audience with her big voice, soulful music-making, and uproarious comic observations,” and BistroAwards.com said, “Reinhagen’s name pops up most often with the word ‘director’ attached, but in her continuing residency at Pangea the words ‘host’ and ‘star’ are more to the point.” While quarantining in her upper Manhattan home in the height of the coronavirus pandemic, she hosted frequent Facebook Live pop-up shows, as well as a weekly virtual concert, Sundays Live at Five. She continues to teach voice, as well as a weekly cabaret class, virtually. While Reinhagen has enjoyed performing virtually, she’s ready to return to NYC's famed live music scene, away from her spotty Wi-Fi and the scene stealing Sassy Cat.
A graduate of Pepperdine University, which she attended on theater and music scholarships, Gretchen Reinhagen, in addition to a lifetime of performing, has enjoyed a 25-year career as a teacher. While she’s taught everything from general music to marching band, she’s built her career primarily as a cabaret teacher/director and a well-respected voice teacher passing on the technique of her long-time voice teacher Judith Farris, as inherited from voice teaching legends Keith Davis and Robert Weir.
